DIRTY COASTIE GIFT

Each person in attendance brought one wrapped new gift to the Opening Ceremony on Thursday evening.  So, in advance of the event, each person tried to find the most valuable and unique gift available for about $10.   Couples either brought both a male-type and a female-type gift or two genderless gifts.

This was a take-off on a fun ice-breaker conducted at a party we attend every Christmas, called “Dirty Santa”.  George was there to enjoy the fun.  It was fun and, of course, everyone left with a gift.  Upon arrival at the party, all gifts were placed in a pile on a table..  Each player took a number from a hat.  The player with the number “1” went first by taking any gift from the pile and opened it and showed it to the others.  Let’s say it is a small radio.  Now the player with number “2” has a choice of either “stealing” the radio from number “1” (the “dirty” part of “Dirty Santa”) or taking a gift from the pile and opening it. Stealing from one another is encouraged and adds to the fun.  If number “2” takes the radio, then number “1” gets to take another gift from the pile and opens it.  Now the player with number “3” takes a turn by either taking any previously opened gift or taking from the pile.  And so on.

Only two rules are needed: (1) once a gift has been stolen 3 times, it cannot again be stolen, thus the person that stole it the third time keeps it and is out of the game; (2) when someone steals from you, you cannot, as part of that same turn, steal the item back from the player who stole it from you. The game continues until the player with the highest number takes a turn which eventually results in the last gift in the pile being taken and everyone keeps the gift they have at that point.  Unless your selected item is stolen the maximum number of times, everyone is in the game until the end since, i.e. if someone steals their item at any point in the game, they get another turn.

T-SHIRTS

I doubt there are many of us that would be distinguishable from another’s 1970s memory.  We have all changed in looks.  So, the Extutes T-shirt, bearing a picture of the Extute as he/she looked back in the 1970s, was worn (sometimes over existing clothing) during almost every group Extute function to facilitate the memory of other Extutes. The spouses (though, of course, they have changed in appearance the least) also wore the T-shirts for the same reason.  If your current spouse or significant other was not with you in OKC during that period, he/she still sent us a picture from that era (unless the Extute robbed the cradle and the spouse wasn’t alive back then).  This way everyone got a “Charter Extute” T-shirt.
