For those of you who were concerned about the bandage on George's leg in
his graduation picture: It is fine now. He was bitten by a shark on his
surfing vacation. Yes, he was scared STIFF.

George was the family dog. The kids loved him. One day Maw
came home and George ran out to greet her (his tags a jingling) and a smile on his face.
When Maw pulled in the driveway the jingling stopped. Maw feared the worst.... and it was.
She couldn't explain to our kids that they would never see George again so she put George
in the freezer. She somehow mentioned to Jennifer that we could get him stuffed... this
stopped the tears of Jennifer.
The Old Man was against it from the start, he joked, "it should be mounted in a
GoodYear Tire.... and how is the taxidermist going to remove those tread marks."
One day the kids left the freezer door open, reaching around George, to get to the ice
cream. George began thawing out, but no harm done. Maw eventually got him to the
taxidermist.
George has been in the family for some time (more of it dead than alive). He would be 25
years old now. He has logged more miles riding with Maw in her van now than he did when he
was alive.
George even appeared on TV in his present condition. The local news did a segment on pets.
The Old Man recalls the day the salesman knocked on the door. Our live dachshund
"Trouble" ran out to greet the salesman. The salesman patted Trouble on the
head. Later the salesman came in and sat down on the loveseat next to "George".
Old Man was waiting for this. The salesman patted "George" on the head and
jerked his hand back... the expression on his face was worth it all.... he said
"Wasn't this dog just running around a few minutes ago?". He left quickly before
we had a chance to buy anything.
